Green Key adds circular cleaning tool for members
The non-profit organization for green accommodation and tourism Green Key now has its own version of the green care PERFORMANCE CALCULATOR in its members’ toolbox. Applying principles of circular economy, it helps to estimate the environmental footprint of a touristic site’s cleaning products.
With the Green Key establishments’ access to their own version of the green care PERFORMANCE CALCULATOR, hotel and park owner get a direct assessment of carbon and plastic savings to be realized by using green cleaning products. And may understand the added value of adding circular economy principles to their purchasing strategy. The tool by Werner & Mertz Professional and powered by the circular cleaning brand green care Professional is available in the “washing and cleaning” section of Green Key website’s toolbox.
Establishments will calculate how much plastic waste and crude oil can be avoided by using green products based on circular economy principles.
green care PROFESSIONAL products are made using renewable resources. The ingredients are based on organic raw materials, the packaging is made out of up to 100% recycled plastic - a good way to save more crude oil and plastic being wasted and avoid further CO2 emissions. These products received the European Ecolabel and Cradle-to-Cradle logo, a certification measuring the safety and sustainability of products made for circular economy.
Several of the Green Key establishments have already switched to green care PROFESSIONAL products. For instance, Wildlands adventure zoo at Emmen, Netherlands, opted for a complete green strategy. Their use of green care cleaning products in the past six months resulted in savings of 17 kg of plastic and 177 kg in CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the strategy involves other puzzle pieces: the CO2 neutral site replaced plastic cups by cups made out of bamboo and saves millions of litres of drinking water with their own water treatment plant, also uses renewable energy from solar panels.
Molecaten’s camping and vacation parks are another examples of circular economy in washing and cleaning. Five of the establishments received the Green Key award thanks to their significant reducing of CO2 emissions. Their use of green care product is presented to the own clients to emphasize the holistic green concept of the parks, as guests expect an ecologic management approach.
Green Key establishments using sustainable energy resources and green cleaning products contribute a lot to the development of a sustainable tourism industry!
